ENGLISH U11 SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIP 2011

02/03 April, National Squash Centre, Manchester

This weekend was the inaugural English U11 Squash Championship 2011 in Manchester, the entry was huge with 54 contenders representing most of the the English Counties. Hampshire County team mates Jared Carter and Jack Turvey seeded 1 and 2 respectively with 3/4 seeds Oscar Khoo, Middx and Perry Malik, Sussex hoping to spoil the party.

Oscar progressed without hiccups through the first 3 rounds and Quarter Final on Saturday with the expectation to meet Jared Carter No.1 seed in the Semi Final on Sunday. Jared’s progress was not without drama, he pulled of a spectacular 3-2 win against a qualifier and then progressed as expected to the Semi Final.

Meanwhile In the bottom half of the draw a new face on the scene, Jack Miterrer unseeded made his presence felt by taking out the 3/4 seed Perry Malik in his Quarter Final 3-0 ..... all remaining players had good reason to be weary.

SEMI FINAL This was the biggest match of Oscars short tournament career against the No. 1 seed Jared Carter and he exceeded all expectations racing ahead with a 2-0 lead, wobbling in the 3rd before regaining the reigns to win the 4th 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9

The final beckons but against who?

SEMI FINALISTS

Jack Mitterrer and Jack Turvey

No. 2 Seed Jack Turvey had a tough start, closely out pointing Mitterer in the 1st 12-10, the 2nd proved easier 11/6 to Turvey and put him into a 2-0 lead when Jack Miterrer staged an exhausting and relentless comeback levelling the scores at 2-2. The fourth game took its toll on both players but Turvey began to make the most errors. The seed slayer Miterrer had claimed another scalp

FINAL
For the final Oscar was now the favourite and the pressure was on. Could he stop the remarkable performance of qualifier Jack Miterrer, the tension showed in his warm up while Jack looked incredibly relaxed. However, once the ball was in play Oscar settled immediately and ran into a 2-0 lead only dropping 5 points. Then the realisation of the glory ahead seeped in and he struggled to remain composed in the 3rd and lost 11-9. A firm chat before the fourth game appeared to calm nerves and with a cool tactical head , he ran away with the game and championship 3-1.  11/3, 11/2, 9/11, 11,2
